What
is Reiki?
Reiki
(pronounced
Ray-Key), a Japanese word representing "Universal Life Energy",
is a natural form of healing energy believed to come from ancient
texts discovered and developed by Mikao Usui in Japan early in the
20th century.
As
a therapy, Reiki is gentle, non-intrusive, relaxing and can be used
with and alongside other therapies to compliment the healing process.
It works on physical, mental, spiritual and emotional levels, can
be used for people, animals, plants, situations, is always given
unconditionally and for the greater good of the receiver. We all
have the ability to channel energy and using Reiki is a simple way
to stimulate and use the body's natural healing abilities.
What
Happens During a Session?
A session is carried out with the client lying down or seated in
a comfortable position - there is no need to remove any clothing.
The practitioner's hands are gently placed in a series of positions
on or over the head, front & back of the body.
During
a treatment the individual may feel:- warmth, tingling, coolness,
peacefulness, feel emotional, feel 'lighter' - feeling little sensation
does not diminish the benefits, everyone's experience of Reiki will
be different. The receiver will take in only as much Reiki as is
needed or wanted, with the energy going where it is required most.
Reiki
is deeply relaxing, eases stress - mental and physical - and can
have a very calming effect. Relaxation of the mind & body can
lead to release of tension on all levels, negativity, even get rid
of excess "baggage". Reiki also promotes self awareness,
a positive attitudes and a sense of well being.
How
Many Treatments Do I Need?
Reiki can
be used as a 'one off' or used as a course of regular treatments
- it all depends on the individuals requirements, needs, situation
and choice e.g. a chronic or acute situation would require several
consecutive sessions to begin with, followed by regular weekly /fortnightly
/ monthly
treatments as support.
Many
people use Reiki as a means of keeping a sense of balance in their
life or as a preventative measure - prevention being better than
cure.
A
consultation is required prior to the first treatment to assess
a clients needs and if appropriate, a treatment plan agreed upon
with progress monitored and reviewed on a regular basis. Reiki is
a no-diagnostic therapy and is not a substitute for conventional
medical advice.
