What
is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy
is the use of hypnosis for the treatment and relief of various psychological
and somatic symptoms. It utilises a trance state, allowing you to
be open to positive suggestions, which can help you to change unwanted
or unhelpful behaviours. Often the hypnotic state is compared to
daydreaming or to the experience that many of us have when driving.
We often realise that we have passed through villages without being
consciously aware of doing so. We have at all times remained in
control of the vehicle and had any situation arisen whereby our
conscious attention was required then we would instantly have returned
to full conscious awareness in order to deal with it.
The
hypnotist merely acts as a guide, tailoring the experience to the
individual. For hypnosis to be successful, the client has to want
it to happen, expect it to happen and allow it to happen. If any
of these are not present then it is unlikely that hypnosis will
take place. It is therefore the client who determines what if any
responses are made. Clients remain in control at all times during
hypnosis.
Hypnotherapy
is a safe, natural and effective treatment and there are no harmful
side effects. No one can be hypnotised against their will or made
to do or say anything they don't want to.
Whilst
we are in the hypnotic state helpful and beneficial suggestions
are made to the unconscious part of the mind which contains our
memories
Hypnotherapy
is very relaxing and can therefore be used to help those who have
a high level of stress in their lives. Stress has been shown to
be a factor in about 75% of all health conditions and so deep relaxation
can help in a preventative way to maintain or improve well-being.
Hypnotherapy
has also been used to help those who have problems with:
- IBS
- Chronic
Pain
- Phobias
- Anxiety
- Weight
Management

- Childbirth
It
can also be used to enhance sporting performance, memory and learning.
